What is Reiki?
Reiki is an ancient form of “hands on healing” that was developed by Dr Usui in Japan. It is a natural, simple and safe therapy that uses the universal energy to balance your mind, body and spirit. This will benefit you on a physical, psychological, emotional and spiritual level.
Reiki is an excellent tool for relaxation and stress management. It can help to alleviate pain. Boost your immune system and help you deal with emotional problems that are holding you back.
Reiki is not a substitute for conventional medicine but it does complement it!
Reiki is not part of any type of religion.
What are the benefits of Reiki?
Reiki has been known to be effective in helping virtually every illness and condition.
One of the most common benefits of Reiki healing is stress management and relaxation. When we are stressed it uses a lot of our energy in a negative way—causing all sorts of health problems both physically and psychologically. Reiki helps you to relax and release stress which triggers the body’s natural healing abilities and maintains health.
Other common benefits of Reiki are:
· Improving sleep
· Pain management
· Reduced anxiety and depression
· Improved digestion
· Positive self esteem
· Faster recovery from illness, injury and surgery
· Reduced side effects from medication, chemotherapy and radiation.
Reiki can also help you to cope with long term and chronic conditions such as:
· Irritable Bowel syndrome
· Crohn’s disease
· Fatigue syndromes
· Heart disease.
Reiki can be beneficial for end-of-life care, easing discomfort and pain, and helping to release fear of passing, making it as peaceful as possible.
Reiki can also help the loved ones left behind to cope with bereavement.
Who is Reiki suitable for?
Everyone can benefit from Reiki—from small babies to the elderly. Even animals can benefit, and generally love it and respond well once they gain trust in the Reiki practitioner.
The only people I would not perform Reiki on are pregnant women - for the simple reason that like many conventional medicines and beauty products it has not been proven to not harm the baby—this is more for my protection than yours :-)
What does Reiki feel like?
As with other holistic therapies people can experience different things when receiving Reiki and in the days that follow. During treatments some people may feel my hands are hot, some will feel them as cold, some will feel tingly sensations. Some people will feel little at all as Reiki can be very subtle.
In the days that follow again some people may feel very little, some will feel their symptoms reduce, whilst others may feel them intensify before reducing. Some people will feel really energised, whilst others may feel ill (flu like symptoms) without actually being ill. Rest assured this is all part of your body’s personal healing process. Reiki is a natural therapy that adapts its healing energy to your individual needs.
How much does it cost?
The cost of a Reiki treatment varies between practitioners , but at Nikki’s Reiki Room in Fordingbridge I charge £20 for a 1 hour appointment and £10 for a half hour taster session.
What will happen during a Reiki treatment?
Before you arrive I will set up the room, creating a relaxing atmosphere by lighting candles and putting music on.
When you arrive I will ask you to complete a short questionnaire and give you an opportunity to ask questions and discuss any concerns you have.
When you are ready I will ask you to remove your shoes and lay fully clothed on my massage couch (or sit in a chair if this is more comfortable for you) I will start at your head and move around your body, placing my hands on or near to your body in various non-intrusive positions. If you are concerned about the hand positions please let me know so I can show them to you before we begin, and we can find alternatives if anything makes you feel uncomfortable—your comfort is of the utmost importance to me at all times!
The Reiki energy will flow through my hands into your body.
Once I have worked around your body and have finished I will gently wake you up if you have fallen asleep (don't worry if you snore - you won’t be the first!) . There is no hurry to get up - take your time to come round. I may leave you for a brief moment at this point to fetch you a glass of water - it is important to drink plenty of fluids to flush out your system.
I try to allow time before and after treatments for my clients to discuss concerns or just to have a general chat. I am not a trained counsellor so cannot offer advice, but I do believe that talking and being listened to can be part of your healing process. However, there is absolutely no pressure to discuss anything you don't want to - this is your time to use as you wish.
Anything that happens or is discussed during my appointments is treated with the strictest confidence!
